What is Zirconium?
For many years, for durability in porcelain applications, a metal substructure was used under the porcelain tooth. Since this metal sub-structure is known for its gums, tooth tissue, overall body health and most importantly, aesthetic aspects, it has been in the porcelain infrastructure for years to seek an alternative material to metal. A new era has been opened with the implementation of porcelain metal in the dentistry of zirconium which was used successfully in other areas of medicine. Because these new zirconium-plated porcelain coatings have a gum problem, and besides the lack of allergies, the light-passing feature allows us to capture aesthetic and function close to natural teeth. The Crown (coating) and bridges made of porcelain on top of the zirconium are referred to as Cercon short name consisting of the combination of the words “Ceramic” and “zircon”. The system, which has 900 Mpa resistance, has started a whole new era in dentistry, covering the highest physical values as well as the ability to pass light, tissue harmony and many different indications. The success of the material has been proven in the field of medicine and industry. High technology for excellent results
To date, zirconium oxide was not used in dental applications due to the high cost of production. Thanks to a project developed by the Zurich Federal Institute of Technology, zirconium oxide has become economically available in dentistry. Zirconium has been used in medicine since the 1960 ‘s, and the reliability of the material has been proven with long-term studies. Zirconium has been used for various purposes in various parts of the body, especially hip joint prostheses, and has not had any adverse effects or damages to date and does not make allergies. Zirconium is a light-capable element that does not transmit heat and electricity to high temperatures, shock resistant, light.
